This or That - Synthetic, Heat Friendly or Human Hair
Oftentimes there’s a lot of talk on human hair alternative pieces, and as great as they are, there’s another alternative hair type, Synthetic hair. Synthetic hair and human hair share a lot of similarities, but there are also some big differences. One being that synthetic hair fibers have style memory, meaning that the style will bounce back to its original state after being washed. Synthetic pieces are going to be your go-to shake and go style that cuts down styling time, while human hair pieces you’ll have to personalize and take the time to style to your liking. Human Hair on the other hand, is going to be warmer toned with less contrast in the blends, while Synthetic fiber colors are going to appear darker, cooler toned and have more contrast in the blend.

Heat Friendly Fibers

Heat friendly/Heat resistant synthetic wigs are another hair type that goes along with synthetic fibers. Heat Friendly wigs are an affordable way to have the flexibility of styling. When using heat tools on heat friendly wigs, be sure to set your styling tools no higher than 270-280 degrees Fahrenheit, as temperatures higher can cause damage to the hair fibers. Be sure to apply a heat thermal spray before any application of heat to protect the hair.

Fiber Maintenance

Synthetic hair requires minimal maintenance, but the maintenance it does require is very important. It’s highly recommended to wash your synthetic hair piece every 6 to 8 wears to help restore the beautiful glow. Along with washing the hair, it’s suggested to use a wide tooth comb frequently throughout the day to help avoid tangling. Stay away from high heat. This means styling tools (unless it's a heat friendly wig) or high heat objects like ovens. When cooking, take off synthetic wigs to ensure their safety.

Variety

Synthetic hair pieces come in wide ranges of styles, colors, and lengths. There’s a style for everyone. Along with the looks of the piece, synthetic hair also is made into many different cap types to work with your needs and preferences. The lifespan on synthetic wigs is estimated from 3-6 months depending on how well it’s taken care of and how often it's worn. Visit our website to see synthetic and synthetic heat friendly styles.

Tips & Tricks

Check out Jon Renau's Pick Me Up Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo like the Jon Renau - Pick Me Up - Dry Shampoo Aerosol Spray (#JR-PMU) reduces the shine on the synthetic wig when brushing it in with a wide tooth comb. Shake and spray evenly 10 inches away from hair, then use a wide tooth comb to distribute product and reduce shine.

Check out Jon Renau's Piece Out Fiber Cream

For Synthetic pieces, creams like the Jon Renau Piece Out Contour Fiber Creme adds volume, texture, and sculpting without weighing the hair down. Apply on tips of fingers, rub within palms to heat the product up to make it more moldable, then focus on ends and where definition is desired. Add a spritz of water over the hair and the cream will be reactivated.

Check out Jon Renau's Fiber Love Holding Spray

If you're wanting a long lasting hold in your style throughout the day, sprays like the Jon Renau - Fiber Love Holding Spray will do just that. Provides split-second release, brushing out easily to preserve shine and body. Spray a few inches away for desired style.

Check out Jon Renau's HD Smooth Detangler

A great detangling product that helps release tangles and eliminate frizz is the Jon Renau - HD Smooth Detangler. Spray the mids and ends a few inches away and then proceed by combing the wig. Be sure to not brush at the scalp, as this causes the knots to come undone and further damage the wig.

Check out Estetica's Sea Salt Spray

Estetica - Sea Salt Spray is capable of bringing separation and pieciness to both wavy and straight styles, while also creating a volumizing boost. A few sprays and some scrunching will bring the style back to life without the sticky, stiff feel.

*Please note, when applying products do not apply directly to the scalp, as this can cause shedding*
