There are so many ways to use this tool for styling your wigs but here are just a few ways to use it alongside some of the tips and tricks I found when using it. If you're new to using styling tools on wigs, my biggest tip is to start with medium heat and low airflow. This will help you get comfortable with the tool. At this temperature, you’ll need to hold the tool on the wig for a longer duration—about 20 seconds instead of the usual 10 seconds. Once you become more comfortable, you can switch to the standard settings that I recommend throughout my styling tips. Another general tip I recommend is if you are using this tool on a human hair blend to wash the piece before styling because it can help hold the style.

How to Smooth Out Your Wig:
To smooth out your wig, start by spraying it with water and, if you are using a human hair wig, a protectant spray. Next, take the oval smoothing brush and gently brush through the wig using downward motions. For human hair wigs, set your styling tool to high heat and high airflow. If you have a synthetic wig, use low airflow instead, unless you are simply trying to remove frizz; in that case, adjust the heat settings to medium heat. You can also apply a detangler, such as BeautiMark Smooth Detangler, before brushing to help manage frizz. Using this tool, I found that the oval brush is ideal for the simple upkeep and the smoothing out wigs. For a more aggressive straightening, the volume brush is significantly more effective, such as transforming a curly wig into a straighter style.

How to Smooth Permatease:
If you're looking to smooth out permatease in your wig, this tool is perfect for styling. Use the smoothing brush on larger sections of your wig to achieve your desired look. If you encounter stubborn hairs that need extra attention, we recommend using a curling wand to gently glide over those hair fibers. This will help manage any fibers that aren't cooperating.

How to Redirect Knots:
A fundamental styling tip to master is how to redirect the knots in your piece. Start by lightly spraying the hand-tied area with water. Then, use a wide-tooth comb to create a new hairline. After that, dry and smooth the hair using a round volume brush. If you are using this tool on synthetic hair, we recommend setting it to medium heat with low airflow. For heat-friendly synthetic hair or human hair, use high heat with low airflow. If you have a shorter hairstyle, like a pixie cut, you may find that using a curling wand works well for you. To style your hair, heat the curling iron to the appropriate temperature for your hair type, and then gently glide it along your part. This can help set your hairstyle effectively.

How to Curl Your Wig:
For more intricate styling options for your wig, start by dividing the hair into sections. If you’re using synthetic hair, spray it with a holding spray (we recommend BeautiMark Flex Hold). For human hair or human hair blends, use both a holding spray and a hair protector, such as BeautiMark 3 in 1 Miracle Protect

Begin curling each section, holding the curl for 10 seconds (20 seconds for human hair). Regardless of the fiber you’re using, we recommend setting your curling tool to high heat with low airflow.

You can choose the type of curls you want to achieve! If you're going for more glamorous curls with synthetic hair, let the curl sit on the wand for an additional 10 seconds while the tool is turned off. Carefully pin each curl in place; once they cool down, brush them out with an oval smoothing brush on low heat and low airflow, working in large sections. If you prefer beachy waves, you can remove the curl from the wand immediately and use your fingers to tousle the hair.

For glamorous curls with a human hair piece (including human hair blends), let the curl rest in your palm for 5 seconds after removing it from the wand. For beachy curls, apply a cool shot from the curling tool while the hair is still on the wand for 10 seconds, and then run your fingers through the curls.

For added texture and to achieve beachy curls, I recommend lightly spraying your wig with water before you begin the styling process.

My final tip for using this item on human hair pieces is to apply a serum afterward to help with flyaways. If you use this tool on your wig for an extended period, you might notice that the ends appear slightly dry or frizzy. Don't worry; this is easily fixable. Simply spray a little water on the wig and gently apply some heat to revive it. For more styling options, click here.
